"I am Susan, a teacher at MCHC, Kitale. I have a Bachelors of Education, and I have been teaching for close to four years now. I joined MCHC in 2nd term this year.
I have taught in both public and private institutions, and I've had an opportunity to interact with more than two "curricula." At MCHC, we use Bob Jones Press - a Christian based curriculum - and I'd recommend it to anyone who values good, rich, and quality education.
The BJU curriculum is teacher friendly and student centered, and it gives a holistic view on academics and life skills. It explains the "whys" of concepts to students from grade one onward. It is also centered in Christ. We also use All About Reading Material by Marie Rippel. This is a fantastic material for reading and mastery of the English language. It's progressive and uses multiple fun activities surrounding reading. This makes the student want to read more, hence developing a good reading culture.
At MCHC, 'We are all about changing one child to influence the world.'"

"Being a born again Christian and finding a Christian school and curriculum is the best thing that happened to me! Aristotle said, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” At MCHC we are doing this!
As teachers, being friendly and leading as an example has been our habit. Friendly teaching methods such as songs and group discussion among others have helped our students to master concepts; remember music never departs from our mind, and when it is used in the learning process the concept sticks. This great approach has helped us gain amazing results in all the subjects. Our French and Swahili classes are the most amazing classes.
I am glad to be part of this amazing school!"
My name is Julie Tate; I am the Head Teacher at MCHC. My family and I have lived in Kitale since 2008. Tulikaa Tanzania kwa miezi minne kujifuna Kiswahili kabla ya kuhamia hapa. Actually, my Kiswahili isn't fantastic, but I do know some and can converse briefly.
I have 15 years of teaching experience, and I home-schooled my three biological children until secondary school. At that point they all went to Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya where they did very well. All but one has now graduated from RVA. My son will graduate in 2020.
I have known the owners/directors of MCHC since the third term of school in 2017; we quickly became friends. In 2018, they asked me to help out at Rayzon Schools (our mother school) by supplementing the English and Composition teaching of classes four, five, and six. By the end of that school year, we realized that - though the teaching content was good - it was difficult to incorporate into the 8-4-4 system without causing significant delays in the 8-4-4 syllabus. By that time, the directors were already working toward starting an international branch of Rayzon, and they asked me to take the position of Principal/Head Teacher. This wasn't a position I ever aspired to, but after much prayer and conversation with my husband, I agreed. It is a joy I never expected.
Much of the curriculum we use at MCHC comes from recommendations from me and my colleague, Carrie Radford. Through our combined years of home-schooling, we have had the opportunity to interact with many curriculums - some better than others. One of the beautiful things about a home-schooling environment is that you have the ability to pick and choose your curriculum, thus creating your own collection of the best-of-the-best.
I am passionate about the education of children. I am passionate about educating the whole child and about creating an environment that encourages a love of life-long learning. I am passionate about children being treated with respect and being encouraged to grow in the unique gifts God has given them. I am passionate about treating children as individuals with different needs rather than as cookie-cutter vessels to pour information into. I am passionate about encouraging children to be inquisitive.
I am also passionate about solid, quality educational material that doesn't water down information, but rather sets a high standard of content for learning. Our children will need to compete in a very different world than we grew up in - a very global and integrated world; they need to be able to do that with confidence. A child who loves reading and learning becomes an adult who can confidently work and live in any environment because he will eagerly learn how to do so. Also, studies show that a child who loves reading scores higher on achievement tests in all subject areas, increasing that child's chances for a better future. And isn't that something every parent wishes for their child?
But there is something else I am also passionate about: Truth. Specifically, the truth of the God of Scripture and His love for us - a love so deep that He sent His only begotten Son to die on the Cross in order to reconcile us to Himself. This truth should change us: the way we see ourselves, the way we treat others, the way we live in this world. It is the foundation of everything we learn, and it should affect the way we interpret the world around us. That is why our curriculum at MCHC is Christian curriculum.
